MONTAVISTA SETS NEW TRAINING DATES FOR
HARD HAT LINUX EMBEDDED DEVELOPERS

Four-Day Hands-On Programming Courses Offered For MontaVista Subscribers

SUNNYVALE, Calif. ­ August 3, 2001 ­ MontaVista Software Inc., the company
powering the embedded revolution, has announced a schedule of four-day
training courses for embedded software developers in Silicon Valley, Dallas
and Boston, "System Development Jump-Start Using Hard Hat Linux®."," and
"Device Drivers With Hard Hat Linux."

"System Development Jump-Start Using Hard Hat Linux" will be held in
Sunnyvale, Calif., on August 21-24 and October 9-12; in Dallas on September
18-21; and in Boston on November 6-9. "Device Drivers with Hard Hat Linux"
will be held in Sunnyvale on August 27-30; and in Boston on November 12-15.
All training courses are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time.

These training courses include intensive hands-on exercises modeled on
actual development systems that have been developed by MontaVista and its
partners using MontaVista¹s award-winning Hard Hat Linux  (HHL) development
environment.   In the second course, students write and test a low-level
device driver on Hard Hat Linux.  Tuition, for either four-day class,
is $2,000. 

According to market research firm, Venture Development Corporation, the
worldwide market for embedded Linux software solutions will reach $306.6
million by 2005, an annual growth rate of 61 percent.  VDC also predicts the
number of embedded developers adopting Linux as their host environment of
choice will triple within two years.


MontaVista recently announced Hard Hat Linux, Version 2.0, the first
embedded operating system and development tool suite based on the new Linux
2.4 kernel. HHL 2.0 boasts unrivaled development support for embedded
processor architectures, CPU boards and software components, with more than
480 fully tested and supported combinations.  The feature-rich release
enables a wide variety of embedded applications, providing a standard
platform for designs in communications infrastructure, networking, consumer
electronics, instrumentation and control.

Attendees must be subscribers to MontaVista, familiar with Hard Hat Linux
and proficient in the C programming language. The first course, "System
Development Jump-Start Using Hard Hat Linux," is a prerequisite for the
