"Debian developers, we're told, have lately been interested in a Web based administration tool from Caldera, Webmin, though this interest is not at an official level (we haven't heard of them adding it to their distribution at this time)" ...given that I've been the Debian webmin maintainer for close to a year now. Webmin packages are available in the testing and unstable distributions and I will make unofficial packages for stable available from my website. As well as the modules in the official Webmin distribution, I'm also working (in my copious free time haha!) on creating modules for Debian-specific features such as the alternatives system, debconf etc. My hope is Webmin will become a complete solution for the novice and experienced Debian administrator alike. One thing that you can count on is neither Webmin (nor Linuxconf, nor XST nor vi) will ever become the "one true way" to configure Debian. It is upto the individual administrator to decide what tools he is comfortable with and it is not our place to force a choice upon him. I hope other Linux distributions will also choose not to shackle their users in the name of "ease of use." -- Jaldhar H. Vyas <jaldhar@debian.org>
