"We work closely with a wide range of JVM and JDK packages with various OS combinations that run on our low powered application-ready systems to support the needs of the information appliance and portable markets," said Robert Olsen, CEO ADS. One display showcases Insignia's Jeode(tm) which enables accelerated and robust Java(tm) functionality on information appliances. A "Sun Authorized Virtual Machine" fully compatible with the PersonalJava(tm) and Embedded Java(tm) specifications, the Jeode EVM(tm) can execute Java applications 6 - 10 times faster than interpretive JVMs in roughly the same amount of memory. Key attributes include efficient memory utilization ported and tested on popular RTOS microprocessor combinations. At the shows, Insignia's demo will be running on Embedix (Linux) software from Lineo, on ADS' Graphics Master low-powered RISC-based system. Applied Data Systems will also be demonstrating a VisualAge Micro Edition (VAME) JVM developed by Object Technology International (OTI), ported onto MontaVista Software's Hard Hat Linux. VAME is a comprehensive integrated development environment that helps speed development with enhancements to support more effective team collaboration. The package includes automatic statement completion and the ability to breakpoint source code without restarting the executing program. The OTI/ HHL package is running on ADS' Graphics Client Plus system. The third JVM is a full Java display of Blackdown JDK running on ADS' embedded Linux, developed through the Open Source with Xwindows, a defacto of LinuxGUI. Blackdown (www.blackdown.org ) is dedicated to the development of the Java platform for Linux based on the community source concept, abiding by the agreements made with Sun and other technology vendors. The Blackdown project is based entirely on Java product source bases that have been licensed from Sun Microsystems. All three demos are running on ADS' RISC-based systems with efficient low power consumption and power management packages. The JVM package options are currently available on the ADS' Graphics Master and Graphics Client Plus platforms third quarter. Pricing depends on the selection of OS, packaging and licensing agreements. ### About Applied Data Systems ADS is the leading developer and manufacturer of "application-ready" RISC-based single board computers for the embedded systems market that enable wireless, mobile and Internet-connected applications.
