WHEN BUSINESS MET OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE
(Subject: The Business of Open Source Software: Open Source and the Bottom
Line.)
(OTTAWA, Wednesday October 17, 2001) - The Ottawa Canada Linux Users Group
(OCLUG)(1) is pleased to announce The Business of Open Source Software, a
conference taking place on November 25th of 2001.
Eric S. Raymond, a prominent thinker on the subject of open source
software, author of ``The Cathedral and the Bazaar''(2), and president of
the Open Source Initiative(3), will be OCLUG's special guest for the
event. He will give the keynote address on the subject of the growing
role of open source in the world of business.
Following his presentation, Mr. Raymond will join a panel comprising IT
and business leaders from the Ottawa region and beyond:
* Michael Bego, president of Xandros Corporation(4);
* a representative of IBM (to be named later)(5);
* David Skoll, president of Roaring Penguin Software Inc.(6);
* Burns MacDonald, Senior Consultant, CGI(7);
* Peter Bojanic, Vice President of Software Development, OEone(8);
* Andrew Hutton, president of Steamballoon Incorporated(9) and founder
of the Ottawa Linux Symposium(10).
The panel will engage in a lively discussion and debate on the roles of
open source software in business. We also hope, with the panel
discussion, to specify successful models of the use of open source in
business strategies. Mr. Raymond and the panel will also be taking
questions from the audience.
The Business of Open Source Software is a special event produced and
presented by the Ottawa Canada Linux Users Group. Xandros Corporation,
IBM, Roaring Penguin Software Inc., and CGI are the event's sponsors. The
conference will take place on Sunday, November 25th from 1:00PM - 4:00PM
at the Ottawa Public Library Auditorium, Main Branch, in Ottawa, Canada.
Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to make a donation to
OCLUG, a not-for-profit corporation.
