FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LINEO AND EMBEDDED SOFTWARE SPECIALISTS PROVIDE OPERATING SYSTEM PLATFORM
FOR NEW SHARP SL-5000D

Sharp selects Lineo Embedix Plus PDA, utilizing technology
from Insignia, Trolltech and Opera

SALT LAKE CITY - Nov. 5, 2001 - Lineo(r), Inc. a leading innovator of
embedded operating system software, host development environments and
professional services, today announced it provides Sharp(r) Electronics
Corp. with Lineo Embedix(tm) Plus PDA as the complete smart handheld device
stack based on an embedded Linux operating system for the new Sharp
SL-5000D.

Lineo Embedix Plus PDA was selected as the operating system for the SL-5000D
because of its low hardware requirements, broad feature support and for
Lineo's ability to bring the product quickly to market using the Embedix
operating system and Lineo's partner technology integration services.
Embedix Plus PDA is a software environment ideally suited for use in smart
handheld devices and provides a GUI framework, Web browser, Java
capabilities and a full suite of PDA applications and support for wired and
wireless communications.

Sharp is now taking preorders from registered developers for the developer's
version of the SL-5000D. Interested developers may register at
http://developer.sharpsec.com

The SL-5000D is the first robust Linux / Java based handheld from a major
consumer electronics corporation. The Embedix Plus PDA platform includes
Lineo Embedix Linux operating system, Trolltech's Qt/Embedded(tm) and Qt
Palmtop(tm) graphical user interfaces, Opera's Opera 5 for Linux Web browser
and Insignia's Jeode PDA Edition Java virtual machine.

"Sharp has decided to use Embedix Linux because it is an open operating
system," said Steve Petix, associate vice president, Mobile & IT Solutions
Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation. "Lineo and its partners have provided
a Linux / Java code base that will allow tens of thousands of Linux
developers to write applications for our devices."

The new Sharp OS platform will be able to run software and applications
written in Sun Microsystems' versatile Java software language, thereby
supporting different operating systems. The Linux / Java platform provides a
framework and flexible open architecture to develop unique, powerful
handheld products in wireless communication, data integration, multimedia
and personal information manager-based applications.

"Lineo Embedix Plus PDA is the open and flexible alternative to Pocket PC
and the Palm OS," said Bryan Sparks, Lineo CEO and chairman. "Sharp is the
market share leader for mobile handhelds in Japan. Their decision to embrace
Linux will result in millions of consumers benefiting from the ease of use
and productivity gained from using Linux-based devices. Lineo believes this
project is the 'tip of the iceberg,' with Linux becoming more pervasive in
consumer devices in the coming years."
