MONTAVISTA SOFTWARE APPOINTS TRENT WINEGAR VICE PRESIDENT OF WORLDWIDE SALES

Business Development Capability Expanded in Response to Customer Demand

SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 7, 2001 =8B MontaVista=81 Software Inc., the
company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that Trent
Winegar has joined its management team as vice president of worldwide
sales. In this position, he will spearhead MontaVista=B9s continuing
efforts to attract and service customers around the globe. Winegar will be
assisted by an expanded business development and sales staff that has
offices in North America, Europe and Asia.

Winegar has more than 20 years of experience in international business
development, marketing, and sales in several industries, including
telecommunications, software and professional services. Prior to joining
MontaVista, he was a consultant to leading Fortune 500 companies, in which
capacity he developed sales management strategies and business plans as well
as helped establish corporate vision and direction for his clients.

According to market research firm, Venture Development Corporation, the
worldwide market for embedded software solutions will reach $1.8 billion by
2003. Another recent research report, by Evans Data, forecasts that embedded
Linux will grow by more than 140 percent in 2002, becoming the most popular
operating system for embedded development probably as early as next year.

Prior to his role as a consultant, Winegar was vice president of business
development at Martin Marietta and executive vice president, business sales
and services at US West Information Systems. He holds a BA in business
administration from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
