MONTAVISTA SOFTWARE ADDS VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES, ASIA PACIFIC Company expands presence in Asia to meet growing customer demand SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 19, 2001 ‹ MontaVista Software, Inc. (MontaVista), the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that it has named Raymond Mak as its new vice president of sales for Asia Pacific. Mak, who has more than 14 years of experience in managing IT business in Asia, will be responsible for MontaVista¹s sales and operations in the region. Based in Hong Kong, Mak will expand MontaVista¹s current sales personnel in Asia Pacific and will work closely with the growing network of MontaVista distribution channels in the region. The Hong Kong base will complement the company¹s presence in Japan, where MontaVista already has an office in Tokyo, headed by Hitoshi Arima. Mak most recently served as vice president Asia Pacific at Caldera International, where he managed Unix and Linux server software sales through various channel partners. Prior to Caldera, he was a sales director at Apple Computer for nine years, primarily developing and managing sales channels in Hong Kong and Macau. ³We continue to welcome seasoned professionals to our management team,² said Jim Ready, MontaVista CEO and embedded industry pioneer. ³Raymond¹s vast experience in developing customer relationships throughout Asia will be of great importance as we expand our efforts to meet the increasing demand for MontaVista¹s Hard Hat® Linux® for embedded development.² According to a recent research report by Evans Data, embedded Linux will grow by more than 140 percent in 2002, becoming the most popular operating system for embedded development, probably as early as next year. ³As the complexity of embedded applications increases, developers throughout the world are turning to Linux. The fact that manufacturers of handheld devices in East Asia are currently rushing to commercialize Linux-embedded PDAs is just one example for this trend,² Mak said. ³My goal is to continue expanding MontaVista¹s presence in Asia Pacific to help corporations speed next-generation applications in handheld, wireless, consumer, networking and telematics systems to the market.² About MontaVista Software, Inc.
