RELEASE NOTES

Extras
------
There are a number of "extras" in the krud-extras directory on the 
second cd. The latest versions of 2.4.x kernel source and pcmcia-utils.  
Also included is a directory of source rpms for qmail, and a source rpm 
for Zope.

Errata
------
All the errata (known at the time of the cd creation) will be
automatically installed on a new install.

UPGRADING

From Stock Red Hat 7.2 Installation
-----------------------------------
Automatically:
  To automatically upgrade from a stock RedHat installation, you
  can boot Disc 1 and then use the "Upgrade" option. If you used
  both CD's during the initial installation, you will be prompted
  for the second during the upgrade process.

Manually:
  WARNING: Kernels should not be updated with "-U".  If there are any
  kernels in the update directories mentioned below, you should first
  do an "rpm -ivh" of the appropriate kernel packages (including the
  appropriate architecture) and then do the "rpm -Fvh *.rpm".  You can
  then generate the new initial ramdisk using "mkinitrd" and add the
  kernel to /etc/lilo.conf as normal.

  The updates directories on each CD contain subdirectories for the 
  different CPU types and a noarch directory.  Each of those directories 
  is separated into directories for each month and a redhat-7.2-to-krud-7.2 
  directory.  The month directories correspond to KRUD releases and 
  contain symbolic links to updated packages in the RedHat/RPMS directory.
  The redhat-7.2-to-krud-7.2 directory contains symbolic links to the most 
  current of the updated packages from all the KRUD releases.

  To upgrade manually from Stock Red Hat 7.2, use 'rpm -Fvh *.rpm' (to
  update just the existing installed packages) or 'rpm -Uvh *.rpm' (to 
  update the existing and then install the new packages) in the 
  redhat-7.2-to-krud-7.2 directories under the "updates" directory on 
  the CD.  
  
  If you are able to mount both CD's simultaneously, you may use the 
  following command:
  
  rpm -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/updates/<arch>/redhat-7.2-to-krud-7.2/*.rpm \ 
  /mnt/cdrom2/updates/<arch>/redhat-7.2-to-krud-7.2/*.rpm
  
  If you are able to mount just one disc at a time, you will need to mount 
  each CD and copy the packages from each of the redhat-7.2-to-krud-7.2 
  directories under the "updates" directory on each CD from the 
  appropriate ix86 subdirectory and the noarch directory.  

  We suggest creating a /tmp/krudupdates directory and copying the 
  packages to that directory.  Make sure there's enough space in your /tmp 
  directory for all of the updates.  Then cd to your /tmp/krudupdates 
  directory and remove any packages that you do not want to update/install.  
  From there you can use 'rpm -Fvh *.rpm' (to update just the existing 
  installed packages) or 'rpm -Uvh *.rpm' (to update the existing and then 
  install the new packages).


From KRUD 7.1 Installation
--------------------------
Automatically:
  To automatically upgrade a previous KRUD or RedHat 7.1 installation,
  you can boot from Disk 1 and use the "Upgrade" option. If you used
  both CD's during the initial installation, you will be prompted for
  the second during the upgrade process.


From KRUD 7.2 Installation
------------------------------------
Automatically:
  To automatically upgrade a previous KRUD or RedHat 7.2 installation,
  you can boot from Disk 1 and use the "Upgrade" option. If you used
  both CD's during the initial installation, you will be prompted for
  the second during the upgrade process.

  To automatically upgrade a previous 7.2 installation, you can also
  use the 'krud2date' utility pointed at a local cd copy, your local hard
  drive, or a web site with updates.

  directory for all of the updates.  Some of the copies will fail due to 
  that package being an older version that has since been replaced by a 
  newer one.  Then cd to your /tmp/krudupdates directory and remove any 
  packages that you do not want to update/install.  From there you can use 
  'rpm -Fvh *.rpm' (to update just the existing installed packages) or 
  'rpm -Uvh *.rpm' (to update the existing and then install the new 
  packages).


Below is a version history containing the location of the updates on
