FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE PORTLAND GROUP™ ANNOUNCES PGI® CDK™ 3.3 CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT KIT™ PORTLAND, Ore., December 21, 2001 The Portland Group division (PGI) of STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM), today announced the PGI CDK Cluster Development Kit 3.3, the latest release of PGI’s suite of parallel Fortran, C and C++ compilers, libraries and cluster management utilities that simplify setup, management and application development for creation of turn-key Linux cluster systems. Compilers and software development tools are the primary interface between a software developer and a computing system; the compiler translates an application written in a high-level programming language into a binary code that a computing system can execute. Almost one year after its acquisition by STMicroelectronics in December, 2000, PGI has been experiencing an increased demand for its high performance compilers and Linux cluster development tools due to wider acceptance of the Linux operating system in both technical computing and commercial computing markets and increased usage of IA32 Linux clusters for performance computing. PGI’s latest release, PGI CDK 3.3 features a new compiler infrastructure utilizing an InterProcedural Analyzer, a Profile Feedback Analyzer as well as improved performance on the new IA32 P4 and AMD Athlon architectures for Linux and NT systems. New releases of the message passing libraries and batch management tools are included. The CDK software enables users migrating from RISC/UNIX workstations to efficiently deploy their application development process to scalable Linux clusters, with a level of efficiency previously not available. “We’ve realized a significantly increased demand for our cluster development software arising from what we believe is the use of IA32 Linux clusters to standardize methods, minimize costs and maximize performance while staying on the cutting edge of processor development,” said Vince Schuster, The Portland Group division of STMicroelectronics and former CEO of The Portland Group, Inc. Significant features in the PGI CDK 3.3 release include: * Floating multi-user seats for PGI’s parallel Fortran, C and C++ compilers for Linux. * Industry-leading single-processor performance and integrated native support for all 3 popular parallel programming models: OpenMP, MPI and HPF Message-passing interface libraries and utilities. * Full native support for Open MP directive- and pragma-based SMP parallelization in PGF77®, PGF90®, PGCC® and PGC++ * Graphical debugging and parallel performance profiling tools * Pre-configured MPI message-passing libraries and utilities * Pre-configured PBS batch queuing system to manage the workload and throughput on your cluster * SMP Parallel PGDBG® debugger and PGPROF® profiler * ScaLAPACK parallel math library * Optimized BLAS and LAPACK math libraries * Tutorial examples and programs to help you get applications up and running quickly using HPF, Open MP, and MPI * Installation utilities to simplify the setup and management of your Linux cluster Hard copy documentation including the PGI User’s Guide, PGHPF User’s Guide, The High Performance Fortran Handbook, and MPI The Complete Reference. PGI CDK 3.3 pricing starts at $2499. Effective immediately, a promotion will be made available so that anyone who buys a CDK now will get the Version 4.0 upgrade of the CDK without charge. Customers can purchase either a CDK V3.2-4 or a CDK V3.3 and get this free upgrade. Customers who purchase maintenance will have their maintenance begin April 2002 and extend for a full year. Details to come. Academic discounts and volume discounts are available.
