From: Alan Robertson <alanr@unix.sh> To: Linux-HA Development List <linux-ha-dev@lists.community.tummy.com>, ha-linux List <linux-ha@muc.de>, Linux Weekly News <lwn@lwn.net> Subject: Linux-HA January 2002 Status Date: Tue, 22 Jan 2002 11:38:43 -0700 The keenly observant will note that I didn't send out a status note in December (I was on vacation at the end of the month). So a few of these things happened in December. We established the web site opencf.org for the Open Clustering Framework standards effort along with starting up the OCF mailing list. We've decided to limit ourselves to working on two areas to start with: Node services, and resource agents. We posted the meeting notes from the Enschede clustering conference to the OCF mailing list. We're making good progress on defining the API for resource agents. We released a new beta version of heartbeat - version 0.4.9a. It is the first step in restructuring heartbeat to be components in the open cluster framework. This release has a new feature for gracefully putting a node in the cluster into standby mode. This release also builds on OSes other than Linux - FreeBSD and Solaris are very close to working right, and at last word AIX builds correctly. We had a live chat discussion of clustering standards sponsored by Sourceforge. It was quite lively and interesting. One of the results of this discussion was that Alan was invited to speak at the annual OSCAR meeting. We presented our direction on clustering standards at the annual OSCAR meeting in Santa Ana, CA. The slides from this talk are on the opencf.org web site. We had a few discussions in Austin with the GoAhead about their possible participation in the OCF standards effort. Somewhere along in here, Alan took about 2 weeks off. It was good to forget about these things for a while ;-) Alan will be presenting four times at Linux World next week - a talk in the main forums on Friday, at the RAS panel, at the Clustering Framework standards BOF, and at the Developer's Den. The talk at the Developer's Den will be a short tutorial on using heartbeat. The slides for these talks are on the opencf and linux-ha web sites. All in all, we've been pretty busy ;-) Until Next Month, -- Alan Robertson alanr@unix.sh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Linux HA Web Site: http://linux-ha.org/ Linux HA HOWTO: http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/ALPHA/linux-ha/High-Availability-HOWTO.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
