Appeal Virtual Machines Achieves Record Performance on SPECjbb2000
Benchmark with JRockit 3.1 JVM

JRockit performs 23% better than previous record for the SPECjbb2000
benchmark on a 4-way configuration with Intel processors.

San Mateo, CA, January 21, 2002. Appeal Virtual Machines, a
technology leader in producing manageable, high performance Virtual
Machines for the Java platform, today announced that the newly
released 3.1 version of the company's JRockit product has achieved
25,626 operations per second running the SPECjbb2000 benchmark,
representing a 23% lead over the closest competitor on identical
hardware.*

The tests were run on a Dell PowerEdge 6400 multiprocessor with four
700 MHz Pentium III Xeon processors running Windows 2000. These
performance numbers have been achieved in tests performed by Appeal
Virtual Machines and reported to SPEC for publication. More detailed
information can be found at
http://www.jrockit.com/about/benchmarks.html

"SPECjbb2000 represents an order process application for a wholesale
supplier and is close to what you get in the real world on server
side Java, short of running actual customer applications. We have
exceeded expectations by improving the results on the SPECjbb2000
benchmark by more than 20 % over JRockit 3.0 in just a few months.
This is a good indication of how much our customers will benefit from
the new version," said David Parker, CEO, Appeal Virtual Machines.

Appeal Virtual Machines' JRockit 3.1 features several performance
enhancements:

· Increased performance of the generated code gives faster execution
of Java programs.
· The newly developed parallel garbage collector efficiently uses all
processors in the system to minimize the garbage collection time.
· Improved efficiency of the JIT compiler and runtime system gives
shorter startup time.
· Optimizations to commonly used Java APIs such as serialization
improves application throughput.

Appeal Virtual Machines' JRockit products are designed and optimized
for the demands of server side execution of Java technology,
including multi-user scalability, non-disruptive garbage collectors,
optimizations targeted for multiprocessors, and the ability to
monitor and manage the execution of Java technology based
applications.

www.spec.org as of Jan 15, 2001. The comparison presented is based on
best performing 4-cpu servers with Intel(TM) or SPARC(TM) processors.

SPECjbbb2000(TM) (Java Business Benchmark) is an industry standard
benchmark for evaluating the performance of server-side Java Virtual
Machines. It has been created by the Standard Performance Evaluation
