CONECTIVA LINUX SECURITY ANNOUNCEMENT
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------

PACKAGE : xchat
SUMMARY :
DATE : 2002-01-18 11:05:00
ID : CLA-2002:453

RELEASES : 5.0, prg graficos, ecommerce, 5.1, 6.0, 7.0

- -------------------------------------------------------------------------

DESCRIPTION
XChat is a graphical IRC client available in most linux
 distributions.

zen-parse discovered[1] a vulnerability in the xchat CTCP PING
handler which could be exploited by an attacker to trick the xchat
IRC user into sending arbitrary IRC commands to the server (a typical
example is a command to give channel operator status to the
 attacker).

SOLUTION
 All xchat users should upgrade.

Notice that CL 7.0 (xchat 1.7.7) users are not vulnerable by default
since the configuration variable "percascii" which controls the
vulnerable feature is set to 0.
