From: Donovan Rebbechi <elflord@pegasus.rutgers.edu> Subject: Linux makes a storm down under Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 03:42:23 -0500 On a recent return to my homeland in Melbourne Australia, I came back to my homeland to find that linux had a somewhat stronger presence than when I left. A lot has changed in just 1.5 years. Firstly, I discover that my old dorm has installed linux and use it for their email services. I thought "how interesting. Their comp-sci tutor is a hoobyist (: " Then I discover that Sydney university has placed dual-boot linux-win95 machines in their labs. Maybe it's not just the hobbyists (-: Then I discover that a (not overly computer literate) friend who I visited installed linux on his PC. It's not in the foreground by a long way, but definitely making a quiet entrance through the back door, and slowly acquiring a very strong presence, especially as an OS choice for web/ftp servers, and affordable UNIX workstations (which can dual boot with Win95 machines. ) -- Donovan
