From: Daniel.Veillard@w3.org Subject: rpm2html, a tool to generate Web pages from RPM packages Date: Fri, 20 Feb 1998 09:25:25 GMT -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi, This is the first large scale announcement of rpm2html. This tools allow to build cross-referenced Web pages from a set of RPM packages. It has been available for a while and is now at version 0.6. You can either: - check the repository at http://rufus.w3.org/linux/RPM/ which provides an index of Redhat distributions (4.2, 5.0 + updates), SuSE 5.1, linuxPPC and a few others. - or fetch the source (available under the GPL licence) at http://rufus.w3.org/linux/rpm2html/ to generate your own set of pages, for example on a local mirror, to index your CD-ROMs, or the set of packages installed on your machine. Here is the README, enjoy, Daniel - ------------------------------- README ------------------------------ README for rpm2html Version 0.60 Rpm2html tries to solve 2 big problems one face when grabbing a RPM package from a mirror on the net and trying to install it: - it gives more information than just the filename before installing the package. - it tries to solve the dependancy problem by analyzing all the Provides and Requires of the set of RPMs. It shows the cross references by the way of hypertext links. The second point will only be efficient if the actual number of RPM indexed is important. I can see various usages for this software: - indexing mirrors sites (e.g. Sunsite, RedHat and their mirrors world wide). - indexing CD-ROM before shipping to provide an easier view of the packages available using a standard tool (an HTML browser). - exporting as a set of HTML pages the current setup of a linux machine, this may prove useful for system administration. Check INSTALL for installation instruction.
