Sparc

Reports are that some, but not all, of the problems with the 2.1.119 kernel on the Sparc platform disappeared with 2.1.120. The bad news is that other problems are still there; the good news is that some of the changes in the interrupt handling have tremendous decreased interrupts, particularly on the SparcStation 1+.

Many people have been about to give up trying to run Linux on a Sparc with the Weitek Power-UP chips, although they are listed as supported. However, this message from Scott Gibson confirms that he does have Linux up on 5 Sparcstation 2 systems with this chip. He does mention that other than the Weitek chip, the systems are 100% Sun hardware running PROM versions 2.6. Hopefully some comparisons between the non-working and working systems will provides some clue as to the source of the problems.

Alpha

For those trying to get kernel 2.1.121 to boot on the alpha platform, the following patch from Jay Estebrook is required. Hopefully, it will be integrated into 2.1.122.

Metro Link has announced Metro-X for the Linux/Alpha platform.

The arch/alpha/defconfig was changed for 2.1.121-pre1, provoking some complaints. No word on whether or not the changes will make it into 2.1.121 or be backed out.

MIPS

The latest version of the MIPS HOWTO/FAQ has been posted.
