Michael Rousseau posted his impressions of Netscape 4.5 on S/Linux. You can read them here. He was quite pleased with how it works.

If you've had trouble getting S/Linux to work on four-CPU 4/600 systems (we all have a couple of those lying around, right?), you may want to grab the latest CVS tree and try again. Ion Badulescu posted a patch which fixes some difficulties with these machines.

Alpha

www.alphalinux.org is now up and running. The intent of this site is to become the central resource for Alpha Linux users.

GNOME 0.30 RPM's are available for the Alpha. You can get yours from ftp.gnome.org.

Scott Lewis posted an Alpha-centric view of the Atlanta Linux Showcase. Check it out particularly if you'd like to know what vendors were running applications on Alphas.

Robin Stephenson mentioned that he's put together a brief summary of his successful UDB install. You'll find it Marc Volovic's site.

Christopher Chimel is starting on a rewrite/retool of svgalib support for the Alphas. His note explains why this is needed. If you want more information or want to help, contact him.

PowerPC

Is there a market for custom PowerPC Linux machines? Eric Lee Green of Linux Hardware Solutions is trying to size up this market after being approached by a Motorola sales rep on the subject. (See his message for more). While it is unlikely that Eric wants a bunch of "I want one" messages, he does seem to be soliciting serious input on what the size of this market might be.

Is there a market for ApplixWare on PowerPC machines? Jason Haas posted a message asking for input from folks who would buy the ApplixWare product if it were available. The results will be passed on to Applix to help them in deciding whether to do the port or not.

Apple has published a case study of a web publishing house that went to G3's and Linux for their web servers. It presents this solution as having been a bit of a leap of faith, but with a completely positive outcome. Read the full story on Apple's web site.
